IRCTC charging "Flat Cancellation charges per passenger"
The Issue
From 12-11-2015 IRCTC is charging Flat Cancellation charges per
passenger. (If you cancel the ticket before more than 48 hours). Meaning if you are booking the ticket 1 month advance and want to cancel it within one hour as well you have to pay below charges per passenger. This is impacting common man.
AC First/Executive Class - Rs.240
First Class/AC 2 Tier - Rs.200
AC Chair Car/AC 3Tier/AC 3 Economy - Rs.180
Sleeper Class - Rs.120
Second Class - Rs.60
The cancellation charges for Sleepr Class and Second Class are very high. Government should understand that the number of booking are more for Sleeper Class and Second Class within 500 KMs. Look at below example:
The fare from Bangalore (SBC) to Dharwar (DWR) for sleeper class is Rs. 260 + 20(Service Charge) = Rs. 280 the distance between two location is approximately 490 Kms. If you cancel this ticket flat 120 rupees will be charged and passenger will be refunded 280-120-20= Rs.140. Flat 50% deduction.
Similarly the fare from Bangalore to Chennai is Rs. 210 + 20 (Service Charges which is not refundable) , the distance between two location is approximately 362. If you cancel this ticket flat 120 rupees will be charged and passenger will be refunded 210-120-20= Rs.70. Flat 69% reduction.
Why government is charging such a high charges for frequent travelers via train ? What government loses if passenger cancels the ticket ?
I strongly suggest government to cancel this rule and rework on cancelation charges which will not impact common man. In my opinion the cancelation charges should not be more than 5% on total fare.
