Animal abuse and neglect is a growing problem across the nation. Many states have stepped up and created tougher punishment for cases of animal abuse and cruelty by allowing felony charges to be brought against individuals deserving of said charges. Currently, Iowa is among the five states with the weakest animal cruelty laws, allowing for even the most extreme cases to be punishable only by a misdemeanor.
