The Issue

We, the undersigned, urgently call on the governments of Sweden, Norway, Mexico, Ireland, and New Zealand to take immediate action by invoking the Uniting for Peace resolution in response to the ongoing and escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Since October 7, Gaza has been subjected to relentless bombing and siege. However, the situation has grown even more dire since March 18, when Israeli forces began systematically flattening the region, leaving much of Gaza in ruins. Since March 2, no humanitarian aid has been allowed to enter, leaving the population without food, water, medicine, or shelter.

The people of Gaza are trapped in an open-air prison, with no access to vital resources and facing continuous violence. The international community has watched this crisis unfold, but political deadlock has prevented meaningful intervention.

The Uniting for Peace resolution, which empowers the UN General Assembly to bypass the veto power of the Security Council, offers a critical opportunity to act. This resolution has been invoked in the past to address similar crises, and now is the time to invoke it again to protect human lives.

By invoking Uniting for Peace, the governments of Sweden, Norway, Mexico, Ireland, and New Zealand can take a lead role in:

1. Ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches the people of Gaza immediately.

2. Calling for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of innocent lives.

3. Holding those responsible for war crimes and violations of international law accountable.

4. Pressuring other countries to join the effort to provide humanitarian relief and end the violence.

We call on the governments of Sweden, Norway, Mexico, Ireland, and New Zealand to:

Support the invocation of Uniting for Peace at the United Nations General Assembly.

Lead diplomatic efforts to ensure immediate humanitarian aid is delivered to Gaza, and that a ceasefire is enforced.

Advocate for the protection of innocent civilians and work toward holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.

The people of Gaza are suffering immensely, and these governments have the moral obligation to act swiftly and decisively. The time to act is now.

Sign the petition to urge these governments to invoke Uniting for Peace and take action to end the suffering in Gaza.
