The Issue

I am presenting my story, not only as a grievance but as a call to action. I am a mother of a fur baby whose life was unjustly ended due to negligence from a veterinarian. It's a sting that doesn't fade, a pain not easily forgotten - let alone forgiven. It strikes the realization that our animal companions, who can't voice their anguish, rely solely on us to do so. And so, I refuse to let another beloved pet to suffer from the nonchalance of incompetent veterinarians.

In the US alone, there are 76 million pet dogs and 58 million pet cats (AVMA, 2021). Their lives and well-being are entrusted to a veterinarian's care. Yet, a lack of proper communication about an animal's condition and careless disregard for their health puts these lives at risk. This dilemma isn't about simply making a complaint against vets; it's a demand for greater accountability in pet care. It's also a clarion call to acknowledge that pet loss due to medical negligence is a loss to a family that needs proper justice, financial restitution, and closure.

Thus, we call on lawmakers to address this matter seriously. We demand the creation and enforcement of stricter laws that hold veterinarians who commit negligent acts liable. These laws should include a mandatory revocation of licenses for proven malpractice cases, financial accountability, and a public negligence list.

Pet protection ought to be a universal responsibility where the guardians, medical practitioners, and lawmakers work together to ensure that no animal suffers due to human negligence or incompetence. We cannot bring back the lives that were lost, but with your support, we can prevent any more lives being taken too soon. Please sign this petition and help protect the voiceless. Let’s be the voice for our animal companions who can't voice their own sufferings. Let's put an end to negligence once and for all.
