I am writing this petition to bring attention to the unfair practices of the water department in the Town of Alex, which have negatively impacted my quality of life and may be affecting many other residents as well.

Four months ago, my water was shut off, not due to non-payment, but because of a severe water leak. During this time, I have gone to great lengths to resolve the issue, including laying new water lines and hiring three different plumbers to fix the problem. Despite these efforts, the town has refused to turn my water back on unless I pay an exorbitant fee of $3,000. Additionally, they went so far as to remove my water meter, making it impossible for me to access water even after resolving the leak.

This situation is not only financially burdensome but also unacceptable, especially since the water quality provided by the Town of Alex was so poor that it was deemed unfit for drinking or showering after testing.

It appears the Town of Alex's water department is violating state regulations by overcharging residents and possibly neglecting essential maintenance and quality checks. According to state law, water utilities must ensure fair billing practices and maintain water quality standards that protect public health. However, the actions of the Town of Alex seem to contravene this mandate.

I call on the state authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the water department's operations. They must ensure compliance with state regulations and take corrective action where necessary. It's crucial that the residents of the Town of Alex receive fair treatment and water services that meet quality standards.
