The Issue

Five people are dead. Dozens more were injured. Thousands of homes were damaged. And it didn’t have to be this way.

When an EF3 tornado tore through St. Louis, the city's warning sirens never sounded. The mayor has now admitted that the system failed because of human error. A button wasn’t pushed. A life-saving alarm was never triggered. For the first deadly tornado to hit the city since 1959, residents were given no warning at all.

This was not a freak accident. It was a breakdown in basic emergency protocol that left entire neighborhoods exposed. Families were caught in cars, in homes, in schools, with no chance to take shelter.

We are calling on the City of St. Louis to do more than apologize. We demand a full, independent investigation into how this happened. We demand public accountability for those responsible. And we demand sustained funding for the systems, staffing, and training needed to make sure these warnings are never missed again.

We cannot cut corners when lives are on the line. Sirens and safety protocols are not optional. They are life-saving tools, and the city must treat them that way.
