Investigate Saad Mohseni's engagement with the Taliban
The Issue

Growing up in Afghanistan, I witnessed firsthand the impact of the Taliban regime on Afghan women and girls. The women in my family and community were stripped of their rights, unable to pursue education or career opportunities, and their basic movements severely restricted. Now, as a member of a democratic society that champions human rights, it is deeply painful to see these injustices persist.
I am particularly concerned about the involvement of Australian citizen Saad Mohseni, the founder and CEO of the MOBY Group, with the Taliban regime through media engagements. Mr. Mohseni's prominent role in international broadcasting has significant influence, and his dealings with the Taliban risk legitimizing their oppressive regime.
The Taliban's rule has not only erased entire generations of girls from public life but has also inflicted trauma and regression on our society as a whole. Since their return to power, they have systematically dismantled progress made in women's rights, education, and freedom of speech.
The role of media in shaping public opinion and policy is crucial. It has the power to either support the principles of equality and human rights or to validate and perpetuate oppressive narratives. It is imperative that we scrutinize Mr. Mohseni's engagements with the Taliban, ensuring they do not inadvertently or deliberately endorse policies and practices that are antithetical to the values of freedom and human dignity.
Therefore, I urge the Members of the Parliament of Australia, specifically the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committees, to investigate Saad Mohseni's overseas activities, particularly his media interactions involving the Taliban regime. This investigation is vital to maintaining Australia's commitment to human rights and gender equality worldwide.

Together, we can ensure that no Australian citizen contributes to or is complicit in actions that undermine the fundamental freedoms and rights of individuals anywhere in the world, especially those in Afghanistan who continue to suffer under Taliban rule.
Please join me in demanding accountability and transparency. Let us stand in solidarity with Afghan women and girls who strive for a future of equality and opportunity by signing this petition.
