Investigate Rosewood Kennels for Mutilating Puppies

The Issue

A new undercover investigation by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has exposed disturbing practices at Rosewood Kennels, a dog breeding operation in Wisconsin. In the footage, the kennel's owner describes cutting into newborn puppies' nostrils and removing their dewclaws herself, without anesthesia or veterinary training, and laughs while explaining the process.

Even more troubling, the owner acknowledges that breeding pugs for their short, flat faces causes serious breathing problems, and that her response is to slice open the puppies' nostrils rather than stop breeding for a trait that harms them from birth. Days-old puppies cannot consent to painful surgery, and there is no indication a licensed veterinarian was involved in any of these procedures.

This isn't just one bad actor. It's a warning sign about how little oversight exists for breeding operations that prioritize appearance over animal welfare, and how easily suffering gets normalized as "routine maintenance." Wisconsin authorities have the power to investigate Rosewood Kennels for animal cruelty, and lawmakers have the power to close the gaps that let unlicensed, unsupervised procedures like these happen in the first place.

Puppies deserve better than being cut into as a quick fix for problems bred into them on purpose. Sign the petition to demand a full investigation into Rosewood Kennels and stronger oversight of dog breeding practices in Wisconsin, before more puppies are hurt.
