I joined the Somerset Little Bulldogs, a community youth TYFA football league in Somerset, Texas, run by John and Lyn Bellfay, along with their family. While this league is advertised as a nonprofit organization, my experience exposed a different reality. Instead of serving the community as intended, it has become a family-run business, diverting resources meant for the young athletes of Somerset.

The land used by the Somerset Little Bulldogs holds significant community value. It was generously donated by a local family to be an asset for the entire Somerset community. However, now that the Somerset School District owns this land, its intended purpose is being compromised. The land, meant to foster community spirit and development, is being used for personal gain by its current operators, the Bellfays. This misuse not only goes against the original spirit of the donation but also robs the area's youth of opportunities that a truly community-focused organization could provide.

It is heart-wrenching to witness this situation unfold, as it represents an exploitation of both community trust and resources. I believe in transparency and fairness, especially when it comes to organizations claiming to be nonprofits. Families should not have to question the integrity of local youth programs, nor should they worry about their children being part of a scheme that prioritizes profit over passion and community service.

Our community deserves better. We need a genuine nonprofit organization that aligns with the values and intentions of the family who donated the land and benefits all young participants equally. Therefore, I urge the Somerset School District and local authorities to investigate the operations of the Somerset Little Bulldogs. Ensuring accountability and transparency will restore trust and ensure the community's resources are rightfully utilized.
