Investigate Ilford Building Conversion to Mosque

The Issue

From my window, I witness the unfolding chaos as vehicles block our lane, creating a direct passage to our back gate. This congestion, stemming from a recent transformation of the NatWest bank building in Barkingside High Road, Ilford, poses a perilous fire hazard for all nearby residents – a building, I’ve heard, accommodating 700 people.

This situation stems from a covert decision by the Redbridge Council to convert the former bank into a mosque, sidestepping the necessary consultations or notifications to residents. Such an action not only breaches trust but raises serious legal and ethical questions. Moreover, it's alleged that a council member facilitated this transaction by accepting £1.3 million—actions that appear clandestine and presumptive.

Communities rely on transparency, especially regarding significant local changes impacting daily life and safety. The abrupt transformation, lacking necessary residential consensus, disregards our voices.

Furthermore, the sudden increase in neighborhood congestion affects emergency access routes, jeopardizing safety standards set to protect us all. Our community needs accountability, transparency, and most importantly, a platform in decisions that shape our surroundings.

We demand a thorough investigation into these claims of misuse of authority and neglect of due process. It is imperative that any development in our area respects legal procedures and community participation.

Sign this petition to urge our local government and relevant authorities to address these urgent concerns, ensuring the lawful and transparent allocation of community resources and space.
