The Issue

I was in the Rise Discipleship home from September 22, 2019, until March 29, 2020, due to my struggle with alcohol and mental health problems. During that time, I was personally forced to fundraise six days a week for five months, working 12-16 hours a day until we met the financial goal set for us. If I refused to fundraise, I faced the threat of extreme discipline or expulsion from the home. My wife gave me an ultimatum: complete the program or face divorce. So, despite claims that participants could leave at any time, I felt trapped.

Reynaldo Sandoval operates this so-called 'faith-based' men and women's home under the name Rise Discipleship Homes. However, it is nothing more than an illegal halfway house engaged in human trafficking. Vulnerable adults, including those struggling with alcohol, drugs, and mental health issues like anxiety and depression, fall victim to Sandoval's coercion. These individuals are subjected to threats and forced to work under the guise of 'fundraising' across states including Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.

This is not just a personal story but an alarming situation affecting numerous vulnerable individuals. What is happening under the rule of Reynaldo Sandoval is not only unethical but also illegal. The local authority's inaction allows him to operate unchecked, exploiting people who are in desperate need of genuine help and support.

It's crucial to hold the District Attorney and local government accountable to investigate these activities and put an end to this human trafficking operation disguised as a religious and charitable institution. We demand that Rise Discipleship Homes be investigated thoroughly and immediately, ensuring the safety and well-being of all current and future residents.

Please help bring awareness to this urgent issue by signing this petition. Let us unite to end this exploitation and seek justice for those who are manipulated and coerced under the pretense of receiving care and rehabilitation.
