The Issue

Who is impacted? As taxpayers, parents, and students, we expect professors at publicly funded institutions like CSU to uphold professional standards. Instead, Professor Allen Gee wrote publicly that Charlie Kirk “spewed hate constantly and used any tactic he could” and that his debates were “filled with falsehoods, racism, homophobia, and white supremacist rhetoric.” These are not the words of a neutral educator committed to fostering open dialogue — they are divisive political attacks that undermine confidence in CSU’s faculty. What is at stake? When a professor frames a public figure’s death in connection to his views — writing that he died “as a victim of the gun violence that he sanctioned” — it raises serious concerns about judgment and professionalism. Such rhetoric does not align with the standards expected of taxpayer-funded employees. If this conduct is tolerated, CSU risks damaging its reputation, losing the trust of students and families, and signaling that inflammatory and politically charged attacks are acceptable under its banner. Why is now the time to act? Columbus State University must uphold accountability by immediately reviewing this matter and taking disciplinary action, up to and including termination, if violations are confirmed. Public confidence in CSU depends on faculty who reflect integrity and professionalism in their words and conduct. Now is the time for CSU leadership to demonstrate that taxpayer-funded institutions will not permit rhetoric that undermines their mission or credibility.
