Investigate Cummeragunja Local Aboriginal Land Council for Housing Negligence

The issue

For years, the heritage-rich community of Cummeragunja has been mired in a crisis. Our infrastructure and housing conditions continue to degrade, much to our collective shame and dismay. It's a community woven together by a tapestry of ancestors and elders who have tirelessly fought for our rights and our recognition. Unfortunately, the current state of our homes serves as a stark antithesis to the efforts put in by those who came before us. The most disheartening aspect of this crisis is the seeming disregard for resident welfare by the Cummeragunja Local Aboriginal Land Council - the body which should prioritize it above all else.

Residents endure unsafe and deteriorating housing, a direct violation of the standards mandated by the Residential Tenancies Act 2010 No 42. Despite the significance of these conditions, serious issues appear to have been continuously overlooked by the Land Council's staff, consultants, and Board members. This failure to uphold duty of care should not, and cannot, be ignored any longer.

Therefore, we urge the appropriate authorities to launch a full investigation into the conduct of the Cummeragunja Aboriginal Land Council. This must include auditing all operations and practices to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as determining the causes of the ongoing housing crisis. This investigation will finally hold those in charge accountable and pave the way towards better living conditions for all Cummeragunja residents Present and Future

Act now, and stand with our community in demanding transparency, accountability, and change from Cummeragunja Local Aboriginal Land Council. Please sign this petition to show your support in our fight for decent living conditions.
