Investigate and take action against Rs 5000 Crore scam by TalkCharge
The Issue
In recent months, I've become one of over 3 million individuals affected by what appears to be one of India's most significant digital wallet scams, orchestrated by TalkCharge, a company founded by Ankush Katiyar. Unfortunately, I, like many others, fell for the scheme, purchasing 'Priority Passes' and adding substantial amounts to my TalkCharge wallet, only to find my funds trapped with no way to transfer them back to my bank account. This compelled me and many fellow victims to use the money solely for mobile recharges and bill payments, while TalkCharge imposed a steep 20% convenience charge, exacerbating an already dire situation.
TalkCharge, although boasting nearly 2 million app downloads, has received overwhelmingly negative reviews, indicative of widespread user dissatisfaction and a growing sense of mistrust. The situation has escalated to such an extent that #TalkChargeScam has been trending on social media platform X for over a month, highlighting the urgent need for intervention.
The alleged Rs. 5000 crore fraud requires thorough investigation and immediate action by the relevant authorities to ensure justice for the millions affected and to prevent further exploitation. It is essential that the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, as well as financial regulatory bodies, step in to conduct an in-depth probe into the company's practices and hold them accountable for any unlawful activities.
I urge the government to freeze TalkCharge's assets and review their business operations swiftly. There should also be measures in place to facilitate the immediate reversal of funds back to the affected users' bank accounts without extraneous charges. Additionally, stricter guidelines should be enforced to protect consumers from such predatory practices in the future.
This issue strikes at the heart of financial trust and integrity in the digital landscape, affecting not only those financially trapped but also eroding public confidence in digital payment solutions that are crucial for India's progress.
Please join me in calling for immediate action to investigate TalkCharge and protect the rights of its users. Sign this petition to demand accountability and restitution for the millions defrauded.
