The Issue

I am writing to urge West Athens School District to investigate and revoke Ms. Alcaraz's teaching license due to serious concerns over her conduct in the classroom. As a parent and an advocate for my 4-year-old child whose voice they attempted to silence, I am compelled to raise this issue for the safety and well-being of all children under her care.

On my child's very first day of school, he was subjected to aggressive behavior. Ms. Alcaraz grabbed my child and screamed in his face. This is just one of many instances that has been reported by concerned parents, revealing a disturbing pattern in her behavior towards the children she is supposed to nurture.

Teaching should be rooted in compassion, understanding, and professionalism. Ms. Alcaraz's actions represent none of these values, and her continued presence in the classroom risks causing long-lasting trauma to our children. Numerous complaints have been made, yet no significant action has been taken by the school administration to protect the students.

According to a 2014 report from the National Education Association, children in supportive and safe classroom environments show better academic performance and emotional development. Teachers play a significant role in shaping these environments, and it is imperative that they create spaces that are secure, supportive, and respectful. Ms. Alcaraz's behavior is in direct contradiction with these principles.

The community demands that the West Athens School District conduct an immediate and thorough investigation into Ms. Alcaraz's conduct. If these allegations are substantiated, it is only right that her teaching license be revoked to prevent further harm.

Stand with us in safeguarding our children’s future and ensuring that the classrooms in West Athens remain safe and nurturing spaces for learning. Sign this petition to demand accountability and action from the West Athens School District. Our children deserve better, and it is our duty to ensure they're heard and protected.
