Invest in Children to End Poverty and Inequality

Invest in Children to End Poverty and Inequality
The Issue
2015 is a critical and historic year in the fight to end global poverty and reduce inequality. This September, world leaders will meet at the United Nations (UN) in New York to launch a global plan of action to create a better world for children and youth, but this will only work if their rights are protected. SOS Children’s Villages - USA needs everyone’s support in telling the U.S. Government that children and youth are our future, and investments in protecting their rights are an investment in the betterment of our world.
World leaders have created a comprehensive roadmap, the Post-2015 Development Agenda, to raise the most vulnerable people in the world out of poverty by 2030. It lays out 17 global goals that range from ending extreme poverty and hunger to ensuring that everyone has access to a quality education and health care. During the UN Summit on Post-2015 this September, world leaders will endorse this agenda and express their commitments to put it into practice through policy and investments in their own countries and contributing to a global partnership to achieve sustainable development. This should be the moment when words become action and each government launches its efforts to achieve the global goals for its most vulnerable citizens.
To end poverty and reduce inequality, every child must have access to a quality education, health care, and the services they need to overcome hardships and thrive. They must live free from violence and with the support and protection of their parents, families and caregivers. Youth must be equipped with the training and skills to find decent work that allows them to live independently and with dignity.
Children and youth are our present and future, and they will be the change agents to make this a better world for all. So at this pivotal moment in history, join SOS Children’s Villages - USA in telling the U.S. Government that to end poverty and reduce inequality in the U.S. and abroad, we must invest in all children and youth.
