Bring French Immersion to Invermere

I support bringing early introduction French Immersion to Invermere, BC.

Experts say that kids should begin to learn a foreign language from a young age; the younger, the better. The older the child gets, certain windows close in terms of language acquisition.

More than half of the world's population is bilingual. Multilingualism has been shown to have many social, psychological and lifestyle advantages. Some benefits of bilingualism include greater academic achievement, increased empathy and expanded job opportunities.

The French Immersion program is designed for students whose first language is not French. Immersion refers to using French as the language of instruction and communication in the school setting. French Immersion is structured so that children learn both French and English skills, and follow the same curriculum as all students in the province of British Columbia.

Invermere is a growing community with a large demographic of young families. We have a vibrant Francophone community, as well as many English-speaking parents who would love the opportunity to offer French Immersion education for their children.

We ask School District 6 and superintendent, Paul Carriere, to start an Early Introduction French Immersion program in Invermere.
