Hi! I am a Vietnamese-American student at Milpitas High School. Like some of my peers, I was raised in the US and know little of the Vietnamese language. This lack of knowledge creates a barrier between me and my relatives who primarily speak Vietnamese. 

In our diverse community, where 11% identify as being of Vietnamese descent, I think that it is essential that we embrace our cultural heritage and promote understanding through language education. Currently, Milpitas High offers a variety of foreign language classes but lacks any Southeast Asian languages.

By introducing a Vietnamese language class to the curriculum at Milpitas High School, we can bridge this gap for many students such as myself who wish to connect with their roots while also promoting cultural diversity within the MUSD educational system.

We urge the school board to consider this proposal for its potential benefits not only for students of Vietnamese descent but also those interested in learning about different cultures. This class has already been added at high schools in neighboring cities and I believe Milpitas should follow suit.
