As someone who cares deeply for the welfare of the residents in our medical facilities, I have seen firsthand how music can affect their mood, quality of life, and potentially their health. Currently, their medical carts don't have a feature to play music. Music has its well-known therapeutic effects and a vast majority of our residents enjoy or are indifferent to it – they can choose to listen to it if they want to. Including a music playing feature on the medical carts could make a significant difference in their day-to-day life.

According to the American Music Therapy Association, music enhances the social, communicative, and cognitive aspects of health and wellness. It is capable of lowering stress, anxiety, and can instill feelings of safety and comfort (1). Given these benefits, the lack of a music playing function on a medical cart is a missed opportunity.

We urge the relevant authorities and manufacturers to consider upgrading these medical carts to include a music playing feature. With this single change, we can gradually improve the quality of life for our residents by bringing them comfort, entertainment and, last but not least, a sense of home.
