⚖️ Petition: Housing Reform for Hate Crime Victims – Introduce Jack’s Law

Victims of hate crimes particularly LGBTQ+ people, the Black community, and Jewish people — who flee violence, harassment, and intimidation are being denied safe housing due to outdated and unfair laws.

Unlike domestic abuse survivors, they receive no automatic priority, leaving them trapped in homelessness, prolonged trauma, and further discrimination — punished simply for escaping danger.

This is happening right now. Hate crime victims are being abandoned by the system, with nowhere to turn.

We demand URGENT ACTION — sign now to force the government to act before more lives are put at risk.

🏠 My Story: Fleeing Hate, Finding Nowhere Safe

💔 I know this pain first-hand — because I lived it. My mum and I weren’t just harassed. We were hunted.

For over a year, we endured a relentless campaign of homophobic and antisemitic abuse at the hands of a delusionally-obsessed neighbour who threatened to kill us. He openly said he would come into our home in the dead of night and leave with blood on his hands.

🔴 We begged for help. We had CCTV proof. The police and CPS did nothing.

With nowhere to turn, we were forced to sell our family home for a huge fraction of its true value — just to escape with our lives. But instead of finding safety, we faced another nightmare: a housing system that shut us out.

Like so many others fleeing hate crimes, we are now:

✅ Financially trapped in unstable housing.

✅ At risk of homelessness due to unfair rent demands.

✅ Punished by a broken system that refuses to help.

This is why I am calling on the UK Government to introduce Jack’s Law – a legal framework – to ensure that no hate crime victim is left without a safe home.

🚨 The Legal Gap: Why UK Law Fails Hate Crime Victims

Over 145,000 hate crimes were reported in the UK last year aloneLGBTQ+ people, Black communities, Jewish individuals, and other marginalised minorities being targeted.

Yet, when victims try to escape, the law offers them: No protection. No safe housing. No support.

Just fear, continued trauma, and uncertainty.

1.) No Legal Housing Protection for Hate Crime Victims

🔹 The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 guarantees priority housing for domestic abuse survivors, but there is no equivalent law for hate crime victims.

2.) Local Connection Rules Block Access to Safe Housing

🔹 Many councils require victims to have a "local connection" before accepting a housing application — even if they are fleeing for their lives.

3.) Hate Crime Survivors Are Not Considered a "Priority Need"

🔹 The Housing Act 1996 prioritises families, pregnant women, and domestic abuse victims — but not those fleeing hate-motivated violence.

4.) Landlords Can Refuse Housing to Hate Crime Survivors

🔹 The Equalities Act 2010 prevents some discrimination but does not stop landlords from refusing to rent to hate crime victims of LGBTQ+, Black, Jewish, or other minority statuses.

🏛 WHAT WE DEMAND: The Introduction of Jack’s Law

We are calling on the UK Government to introduce Jack’s Law, which would:

✅ ABOLISH local connection rules for victims fleeing hate crime, allowing them to apply for social housing anywhere where they choose to flee to in the UK.

CREATE a Hate Crime Housing Priority Status, so survivors receive the same protection as domestic abuse victims.

ENSURE councils provide emergency housing for hate crime victims, preventing them from becoming homeless and further suffering.

HOLD police and the CPS accountable when they fail to act on serious threats and violence.

STRENGTHEN rental protections, so landlords cannot reject tenants based on their race, religion, and sexual orientation.

EXPAND housing support for marginalised communities, ensuring safe accommodation for LGBTQ+, Black, Jewish, and other minority victims disproportionately affected by hate crime.

NO ONE should be left homeless and to struggle just because of who they are!! 🫶🏻

💰 Jack’s Law Will Also Save the UK Millions

Beyond being a moral necessity, Jack’s Law is a cost-effective solution that will save the government millions by:

Reducing Homelessness Costs – Councils spend £2.5 billion annually on temporary accommodation. Providing housing protections for hate crime victims will dramatically cut this cost.

Easing Pressure on the NHS & Emergency Services – Without safe housing, victims face repeat attacks and continued suffering, increasing demand on police, hospitals, and mental health services.

This will free up emergency resources.

Preventing Long-Term Welfare Dependency – Secure housing enables victims to find employment and contribute to the economy, reducing reliance on Universal Credit and housing benefits.

Jack’s Law isn’t just about justice — it’s a financially responsible policy that benefits everyone.

📌 Subject: Urgent: Support Jack’s Law to Protect Hate Crime Victims

Dear [MP’s Name],

I am writing to you because hate crime victims in the UK are being left to struggle, left homeless, and abandoned by a system that refuses to protect them. Unlike domestic abuse victims, those fleeing hate-motivated violence receive no automatic housing protections, leaving many at risk of homelessness, financial ruin, and further abuse.

The Home Office reported over 145,000 hate crimes in 2023-24, with LGBTQ+ people, the Black community, Jewish individuals, and other minorities being disproportionately targeted. Yet, when these survivors escape to save their lives, they face barriers that make rebuilding impossible.

🏠 The Housing Crisis for Hate Crime Victims

🚨 "Local connection" rules block victims from moving to safe areas – They are forced to stay where they were attacked or face homelessness.

🚨 No legal housing protections – Domestic abuse victims receive priority housing, but hate crime victims are ignored.

🚨 Discrimination in private rentals – Landlords can legally refuse tenants because of their ethnicity, religion, and sexual orientation.

The Result?

Victims who have already endured trauma are pushed into homelessness, poverty, and continued danger.

This is unacceptable.

The UK has nothing to protect the victims who are forced to flee.

🏛 Jack’s Law: A Simple, Lifesaving Solution

I urge you to support Jack’s Law, which would:

ABOLISH local connection rules for those fleeing hate crime – Allowing hate crime victims to apply for social housing anywhere in the UK where they have cultural, emotional, and community ties.

CREATE a Hate Crime Housing Priority Status – Giving hate crime victims the same priority as domestic abuse victims.

ENSURE councils provide emergency housing – So no survivor is left homeless after escaping abuse.

PROTECT hate crime victims in private rentals – Stopping landlords from rejecting tenants based on their ethnicity, sexual orientation, and religion.

HOLD police and the CPS accountable – Ensuring victims aren’t ignored when clear evidence of threats exists.

EXPAND housing for marginalised communities – Providing safe, culturally sensitive options for LGBTQ+, Black, Jewish, & other minorities that have been victims of hate crime and had to flee.

---

💷 Jack’s Law Will Also Save the Goverment Millions of Pound

Beyond being the right thing to do, this is a cost-effective policy that will reduce government spending by:

✅️ CUTTING homelessness costs – Councils spend £2.5 billion annually on temporary accommodation. Prioritising hate crime victims in housing saves taxpayer money.

✅️ EASING NHS and policing pressures – Without secure housing, victims face repeat attacks, increasing demand on police, hospitals, and mental health services.

✅️ REDUCING long-term welfare dependency – Stable housing allows hate crime victims to work and contribute to the economy, reducing reliance on Universal Credit and housing benefits.

This isn’t just about justice — it’s about creating a smarter, more effective system.
