Introduce Halal Food Options in Midwood Highschool's Lunch Menu

The Issue

As a Muslim student at Midwood Highschool, I have often found myself with limited options during lunch time especially on days where the school decides to serve meat. I am not alone in this struggle; many of my fellow Muslim students share the same experience. We are tired of resorting to the same old peanut butter and jelly sandwiches every single day.

Muslim students in Midwood who depend on school lunches face a difficult decision: either go hungry until they get home or compromise their religious dietary restrictions.

Midwood is a diverse neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY, with a significant Muslim population. It is estimated that about 20% of New York City's public school students are Muslims (source: NYC Department of Education). Despite this fact, our dietary needs are not being adequately catered for in our school cafeteria.

Halal food options aren't just about religious observance; they also contribute to cultural inclusivity and diversity within the school environment. By introducing Halal food options into the lunch menu at Midwood Highschool, we would be promoting an inclusive atmosphere where all students feel valued and respected.

We urge Midwood Highschool administrators and decision-makers to consider our plea seriously. Let us ensure that no student goes hungry or feels marginalized because their dietary needs aren't met by their own school cafeteria.

Please sign this petition if you believe that all students deserve access to diverse food options that respect their cultural and religious beliefs.
