Introduce boys volleyball in Prince William County schools

Introduce boys volleyball in Prince William County schools
The Issue
I am a 15-year-old student-athlete currently running cross-country for my school and playing competitive club volleyball. I developed a passion for volleyball at age 11, initially joining the girls’ team because there were no school options and limited clubs available for boys at that age. My dream is to see boys’ volleyball actively played in Prince William County schools, providing opportunities for young athletes like myself who share this passion.
Volleyball is one of the fastest-growing sports among boys across the United States. According to USA Volleyball, boys high school volleyball is up 76% over the past 10 years, with a 12.5% growth last year, and Oregon becoming the 29th state to sanction boys high school volleyball earlier this month.
Neighboring counties, such as Fairfax, have already adopted it, entering their second year, and Loudoun County has approved it for the 2026 school year. Despite the growing interest and participation, Prince William County lags behind in offering this exciting and dynamic sport as part of its school athletic programs.
Introducing boys' volleyball in our schools will not only bring us up to speed with our neighbors but also nurture teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition among students. It can open doors for scholarships and opportunities at the collegiate level for numerous boys who wish to pursue the sport competently.
Volleyball teaches valuable life skills and promotes physical fitness. It’s time for Prince William County Schools to embrace this inclusive initiative, providing all student-athletes with equal opportunities to explore their interests and excel.
We urge the Prince William County School Board to take swift action to introduce boys’ volleyball in high schools starting from the 2026 academic year. By doing so, we are taking a vital step toward enriching our school district’s sports offerings and meeting the athletic interests and needs of our diverse student body.
Let's rally together, show our support, and make boys volleyball in Prince William County Schools a reality. Please sign this petition to make a positive change in our community's sports landscape. Please share with other members of the community to also sign.
