Introduce AP Physics at Ingraham High School

Introduce AP Physics at Ingraham High School
The Issue
Ingraham High School should be a place where students can access a promising range of science courses, particularly those that offer rigorous, college-level instruction. Yet, our school plans to stop offering IB Physics SL next year. Without IB Physics SL, our school will no longer provide any advanced physics courses. This absence threatens to weaken our students' enthusiasm for science and stifle their academic growth.
The lack of higher-level physics classes will leave our eager learners with no choice but to seek advanced instruction off campus. This will disrupt Ingraham's school environment and place a financial and logistical burden on students and their families as they look for alternative educational opportunities. Running Start classes for advanced students distance them from Ingraham’s community, and should be an alternative, not a necessity.
Additionally, a strong foundation in physics is crucial for students planning to pursue STEM fields in higher education, and a lack thereof will limit their future prospects. While Physics B is an option at Ingraham, it is only a semester-long introductory course and does not equip these students with the complex understanding essential for their future.
The Solution
An AP Physics class could bridge this gap by providing students with the opportunity to understand how the world works through ancillary physics mechanics and develop analytical problem-solving, home at Ingraham. Offering AP Physics will protect Ingraham’s school community, deepen our students’ understanding of their world, and ensure they are well-prepared for college-level coursework.
We implore the Seattle School District to make these goals a reality by implementing an AP Physics class at Ingraham. In order to ensure our students’ future possibilities, we must invest in and expand their academic opportunities.
Join us in calling for the introduction of an AP Physics class at Ingraham High School by signing this petition. Let's enrich the educational pathways available to our students, empower their academic success, and strengthen the spirit of learning within our school.
