The Issue

As a regular commuter on Hwy 231, I have often faced a terrifying situation at the intersection of Hawes Blvd and Hwy231. More than once, I've had to slam on the brakes to avoid colliding with a semi turning out in front of me, the absence of a caution light or traffic light being crippling. This intersection has been the site of numerous accidents and, sadly, fatalities due to heavy semi-truck traffic pulling out unaware of oncoming vehicles. It's high time changes were made to this perilous section of our daily commute.

Statistically, intersections like this, that are frequented by large tractor trailers and don't have adequate safety measures, experience higher rates of accidents. A study by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration stated that one-third of all large-truck crashes occur at intersections. A simple solution like the introduction of a traffic light can substantially reduce these accidents, bringing much-needed safety improvements to our community's roads.

Preventing tragic incidents is not only a legal duty but also a moral obligation. By installing traffic lights at this dangerous intersection, we can make our roads safer for everyone. As concerned community members, drivers, family members, and friends, we plead with our local authorities to take immediate action. Let us come together and ask for a traffic light at the intersection of Hawes Blvd and Hwy 231. Please, sign this petition - your signature could save lives.
