Introduce a Curfew on Motorcycles in Beirut After 10 PM

The Issue

I am a resident of Beirut, and our once peaceful streets are no longer safe after sunset. Too often, we find ourselves at risk due to underage and immature motorcycle riders, many of whom operate without a license. This has not only disrupted our tranquility, it has also posed real threats to pedestrians and other drivers alike.

We propose a policy where motorcycles are not allowed to roam the streets of Beirut after 10 PM. Restricting the operation of motorcycles during late hours will surely decrease the dangers plaguing our streets and alleys. As per the Global Status Report on Road Safety 2018, motorcycles riders are among the most vulnerable road users constituting 28% of road traffic deaths globally, and it truly hits close home to us in Beirut.

In order for us to feel safe in our own city again, we urge the concerned authorities in Beirut to enforce this policy. Every individual has a right to feel safe within their city. The streets belong to all of us, and we should be free from fear and from the worry of danger caused by negligent motorcyclists.

Please, stand with us in our quest for safer streets in Beirut. Sign our petition and let the authorities recognize the urgent need for regulating the operation of motorcycles after 10 PM in our beautiful city.
