Back in 2020, the EARN IT Act was unsuccessful, due to it threatening internet safety in numerous ways. Now, the same act is threatening to return this year, and it will only cause more problems across the globe. Encryption is critical, not only for Americans, but for the entire world, and this act is undermining it.

We need to stand strong and encourage Senators to oppose this Act for the sake of everybody's privacy. Yes, I'm in support of children's privacy too, and this is not on if they're not safe online. This act will mean that companies can be sued for protecting the content and communication of users.

Strong encryption can help protect everyone, and without it, all users, including the younger generation, are at risk of severe danger. It's even aiming towards end-to-end encryption, which is vital to keeping people safe from violence and abuse. This threat could harm people within the LGBTQ+ community, who really depend on encryption, and leave them more vulnerable to unfair abuse and harsh treatment.
