International Observers Needed for U.S. 2026 Midterm Elections

International Observers Needed for U.S. 2026 Midterm Elections
The Issue
Recent public statements by sitting national leadership that have been widely reported as suggesting the cancellation or postponement of upcoming elections — even if later clarified — have intensified public concern about the integrity and continuity of democratic processes. This petition reflects that rising public anxiety and seeks to affirm that electoral cycles proceed with transparency, independent verification, and public trust. We are living in a moment of declining public confidence in the U.S. electoral system. Across recent election cycles, concerns about access, transparency, administration, and technical integrity have intensified — not because democracy has failed, but because existing safeguards are uneven, opaque, and increasingly politicized.
In democratic systems worldwide, when public trust is strained, international election observation is used as a stabilizing safeguard. It does not presume fraud. It does not dictate outcomes. It provides independent, professional assessment to strengthen legitimacy and public confidence.
For that reason, I have written to international election observation bodies — including the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Organization of American States (OAS) — requesting election observation and technical oversight for the 2026 U.S. midterm elections, with continued observation through the 2028 presidential election cycle.
Specifically, this request asks for independent, expert review of:
Voting system administration and technical processes, including electronic voting systems where applicable
Transparency, access, and uniformity in election procedures
The impact of district boundaries and redistricting practices on voter representation
Election administration practices in jurisdictions where public confidence has been significantly strained
These requests are grounded in the understanding that democratic legitimacy depends not only on outcomes, but on confidence in the process itself.
The vulnerabilities facing U.S. elections are not confined to a single year. Voting system inconsistencies, partisan election administration, gerrymandered districts, voter suppression, and the absence of uniform national standards will not resolve themselves between election cycles. In fact, pressure on election systems is likely to increase as the 2028 presidential election approaches.
Extending international observation across multiple election cycles ensures that oversight is not reactive or symbolic, but continuous and systemic. Long-term observation strengthens public trust, identifies structural weaknesses, and encourages durable reforms rather than temporary fixes.
This petition does not accuse.
It does not prejudge outcomes.
It calls for transparency, verification, and accountability — the foundations of any functioning democracy.
By signing, you affirm that:
Every eligible vote deserves equal protection
Election legitimacy depends on transparency and technical integrity
Independent, international observation strengthens democracy rather than undermining it
Sign this petition to stand on record for election integrity, public trust, and democratic legitimacy — before confidence is further eroded.
