Last Saturday, 13th February 2021, some protesters went to the Lekki Toll Gate to hold a peaceful protest as guaranteed under the Nigerian Constitution, against the decision to reopen the Toll Gate. Not surprisingly, they were arrested by the police who this time did not use any firearms, as opposed to the indiscriminate shooting of the protesters by soldiers of the Nigerian army on 20th October 2020. I salute the courage of the protesters who went there to express their grievance and solidarity with the innocent victims who were gunned down in cold blood on that day of infamy. We all owe it to posterity to ensure that their cries for justice will never be buried by the sands of time. I also hope that the newly appointed Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court Mr Karim Khan will now give the matter the urgency it deserves.
