Dear All,
It was obvious from the outset that the Nigerian Army was lying though its teeth by saying that it fired ‘blank bullets’ at the Lekki Protesters on 20th October 2020. If all they wanted to do was to scare the protesters by simulating guns shots, they really should have saved their blank bullets and used loudspeakers with pre-recorded sounds of gunshots and flashing strobe lights. At this stage and in the face of the disdain with which the Army is treating the judicial probe set up by the government, the International Criminal Court will be failing in its duty and condoning crimes against humanity if it continues to delay opening a formal investigation into the matter. Be that as it may, we will continue to remind the ICC of this sacred duty, and its moral and legal obligation to discharge it. I would also like to inform you that l have today sent a copy of this update to the ICC.
