Calling on all Lebanese Diaspora, and friends globally, to please support this petition to investigate the explosion of the Port of Beirut, Lebanon in the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity.
Change does not happen on its own, as history has proven. It is brought about and driven by the people, whether in Lebanon or abroad, who come together to achieve this unified purpose: freeing Lebanon from the chains of corruption, which are deeply rooted in a large number of current and previous politicians. These chains of greed, negligence, and in-humane apathy towards all Lebanese citizens have deprived them of fundamental human rights such as safety and security, electricity, water, the ability to make a decent living, and, more importantly, faith in any future for the country.
We demand an international investigation to trace the origins of the explosion and for the corruption that led to what can only be described as a crime against humanity. To accomplish this mission, we need your help. The articles below provide a thorough insight into the case:
- The port is a civilian institution. Located in a densely populated area of Beirut, it should not contain hazardous materials that are as dangerous as weapons of mass destruction, if exploded. A non-state military group that heavily utilizes the port for its suspicious military activities is believed to have deposited these dangerous materials. It is well known that this group has been systematically involved in regional wars (outside, or across the borders of Lebanon), consequently compromising Lebanon and its people, to foreign systematic military activities and war, including civilian unrest among the population. The last incident could have been an attack on the port that may have resulted directly or indirectly in the port's catastrophic explosion. These activities are contrary to the provisions of the national constitution, international laws, and international resolutions. And they fall under Art.VII (k) of the Rome Convention.
- Lebanon is a captive nation. Its people are ruled by a corrupt authority who plundered the wealth of its citizens, bankrupted the country, desecrated the judiciary system, and made Lebanon a failed state. The authority is incapable and untrustworthy to investigate the blast impartially. Furthermore, this authority is colluding with the non-state military actors that wage foreign wars and impose terror on the citizens of Lebanon contrary to the provisions of the national constitution, international laws, and international resolutions. Consequently, exposing Lebanon and its people to military activities that may have resulted directly or indirectly in the blast of the port.
Therefore,
- We reject any local investigation into the port crime. We do not trust this authority, nor do we believe in it. We know very well that it will not declare the truth. It will obliterate responsibilities and exonerate those in the power hierarchy and the non-state military forces, which heavily use the port for its suspicious activities.
- The people of Lebanon are determined and resilient. We ask to combine efforts with every peace-loving people worldwide to accomplish the Purposes and Principles of the United Nations. Lebanese citizens are seeking support during this trying time and asking the UN Security Council to refer the explosion of the Port of Beirut to the International Criminal Court as authorized by Article 13(b) of the Statute of the Court.
It is the responsibility of each one of us to take action. We urge you to please sign this petition and share it as widely as possible. By adding your voice to this petition, we can make bring change to our beloved Lebanon and its people.
Let's get millions to sign – starting with you!
