ICC WC 2019: Trophy To Be Shared Between New Zealand And England

The Issue

Dear Cricket Lovers,

On the 14th of July we witnessed an outstanding Finale between two splendid teams - England and New Zealand. Yet something went very wrong that day. No, it was not the ball hitting the bat for four in the final over but the ICC rule for Super Over. Two teams scoring the same total in the main match and even scoring the same runs in the super over, but one being declared the winner for simply scoring more boundaries.

Is that even a fair way to judge the best team? Is sharing a trophy such a difficult thing? Can no teams be equally good and deserve to be called a winner? Old rules and traditions need to change for the better. Deciding a team’s fate on the basis of the number of boundaries scored is something not only unrealistic but very cruel at the most – It seems as if boundaries require more effort than continuously running between wickets to get 2-3 runs .The two teams gave their very best and not even at a single moment you could differentiate between the caliber and dedication showed by them.

The reason I write this petition is because the New Zealand Cricket team deserves their right to be called ICC 2019 World Cup Champions along with the England Cricket team. If getting a decisive result is so necessary why not go for another super over or even having the bowl-out method. If cricket is a Gentleman’s game I think it’s the best time to make amends in the ICC rule book.If A game could only have one winner then the rules should be fair as well.
