I had a strong suspicion violence would be the response of Verity Baptist's parishioners and ushers on the first night we protested without the benefit of security cameras, and my suspicion was proven correct.
It's not like I am the Amazing Kreskin.
The usher named Ryan (who we refer to as A-Ryan) told me and several other protesters, individually, on several occasions that those cameras weren't there to protect Verity -- they were there, he said, to protect us.
And on the last night we protested with cameras present, after the paid security guards were no longer on scene, A-Ryan's response to my question about what he intended to do after those cameras were finally gone, was this, "I'll kill you."
Plain. Simple. Matter of fact.
My response, of course, was to laugh in his face and tell him he ain't killing jack shit -- and when he invited me to follow him to his truck, I did, but his van (it wasn't a truck) was parked under a camera which he pointed to just prior to trying to run Bishoy over as he drove away.
That was a Sunday evening. The following Wednesday evening, the cameras were gone.
Verity's parishioners and ushers were noticeably more verbally and physically aggressive.
They physically blocked protesters trying to move through the parking lot.
The "burn in hell, faggots" gal brandished a knife.
The guy we call "TwoTone" brandished a firearm.
The Russian skinhead with the POS Nissan pushed Darcy with both hands and then squared off like he was going to hit her until she made it clear she would be perfectly willing to beat his ass.
(sorry to have left that out Darce)
A-Ryan physically assaulted Bishoy from behind and tried to falsely claim to the Sheriff's Deputies who eventually arrived that he had been attacked by Bishoy.
Johnny Cervantes III physically assaulted Spenser with a two-step, two-handed shove to his chest, and then while Matt Stucky and the usher named Vladi both physically prevented me from photographing Cervantes's license plate number as he tried to flee in haste, Cervantes dismounted his vehicle and said, "I know where you live in Rancho, Sean; I'll see you at your house."
They did exactly what animalistic thugs who think they're not being watched and recorded do: They acted out.
Well, Spenser will get his day in court -- and if Sacramento County is a place on the map where people believe in the right to protest those who advocate murder and who call for violence against those whose lives they disapprove -- and who then commit violence under the guise of faith -- then Spenser's cause of action will prevail.
Good job, Spenser. Courage is demonstrated by deeds, not words.
The way to deal with bigots is to publicly expose them and take their money.
