The organizers did a WONDERFUL job, both on Wednesday and especially today.
That's a tough gig and they handled it with aplomb, for the most part.
They got a little heavy-handed with the crowd control and the "you shouldn't say that" approach... and that should change, because the razor's edge Verity walks is, literally, the spirit and intent of the 1st Amendment -- they have a right to spew virulent words, to make themselves well-known for their bigotry and hatred, and we have a right to call them out for it.
It is a bit of a disservice to suppress the natural response of your own supporters simply because it's not what you would say... so, in my opinion, that should cease -- as should the attempts to do more crowd control than the cops are doing -- let them do ALL the crowd control --and call into question anything they try that violates our 1st Amendment right to peacefully assemble.
I mean, I'm sure John Shorey, of Harsch Investment Properties, would prefer we protest at Northgate instead of in front of his house.
What protest organizers did EXCEPTIONALLY WELL, was work with the cops, provide opportunities for refreshment and comfort to the crowd, and communication -- all invaluable.
But the fact remains: A lot of us were there for one reason -- to agitate -- to express our feelings -- and to communicate our rejection of Verity Baptist Church's message of hate.
And we accomplished our mission as much as the organizers accomplished theirs -- so it's a win-win.
We all walk different paths and all are needed in this fight -- but we do not need to subject ourselves to one another -- we do not need to define a leadership class who get to decide what is or isn't an appropriate protest of a genocidal turdblossom.
Because, when you get right down to it -- that's what Jimenez is doing with his brainwashed cult of losers: He is trying to define for all of us -- through his sermons to them -- how we are supposed to feel, how we are supposed to behave, and how we are supposed to live our lives.
Verity's services are posted -- it doesn't require much organizational skill to peacefully assemble. It requires personal responsibility.
And I saw a lot of that today because 40 mutant scum were NOT torn to shreds by a throng of more than 1000 angry and hurting people.
And that, in an of itself, was commendable.
