We are requesting that the town of Brookline, including the Department of Public Works,  the Parks and Open Space Division, and the Town Meeting, install field lighting at Harry Downes Field so that residents can safely use the field after dark. 

Throughout the spring, winter, and fall, daylight hours are limited. During these hours, Harry Downes Field is occupied by town programs, especially during weekdays. As a result, many residents, students, and families have little opportunity to use the field for recreation and exercise. Once it gets dark, the field becomes unfit for use and dangerous due to the lack of lighting.

The increased ability to use Harry Downes Field encourages physical activity and gives residents more access to recreational spaces. The field also provides a safe place for sports and community activities, and the addition of lights makes better use of an already existing expense. 

We urge Brookline officials to approve the installation of lights at Harry Downes Field. By signing this petition, you support increasing access, safety, and recreational opportunities for the Brookline community.
