As an employee with a formidable 12 years of service at Dollar Tree, I have witnessed too many vulnerable members of our community fall at our doorstep. Most of them are elderly individuals struggling to navigate the steep curb – a challenge that resulted in several injuries. Heartbreakingly, the latest incident led to an older woman suffering brain bleeding due to a severe head injury. I fear that one day, it could be someone close to me, like my beloved grandmother. According to the National Council on Aging, every 11 seconds, an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall, and every 19 minutes, an older adult dies from a fall. These alarming statistics reveal the urgency to address this problem. By installing a wheelchair ramp in front of our Dollar Tree store, we can significantly reduce these incidents and ensure these daily routines like shopping do not turn into life-threatening activities for our older customers. Make our stores welcoming for everyone, especially the elderly, who deserve to shop without fear or inconvenience.
