The Swakeleys Roundabout in Uxbridge is a busy intersection, with cars coming at high speeds from the A40. Many children travel this route daily to reach Vyners School, and their safety is at risk due to the lack of adequate traffic control measures. The existing zebra crossing is often overlooked by drivers until it's too late, posing a significant danger to our young pedestrians. According to Department for Transport statistics, in 2019 there were 25,975 accidents involving pedestrians across the UK (source: Department for Transport). While we don't have specific numbers for our roundabout, even one accident is too many when it comes to the safety of our children. We urge local authorities to install traffic lights at Swakeleys Roundabout as an immediate measure towards enhancing road safety in our community.
