Install Traffic Calming Measures on Foxwell Road to Stop Dangerous Speeding
The Issue
Dear Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works, Traffic Engineering Division,
We, the undersigned residents of Foxwell road and surrounding communities, urgently request the installation of traffic calming measures, such as speed humps or signage, on Foxwell Road to address dangerously high vehicle speeds. This street is frequently used as a “shortcut” between Elvaton Road and Hospital Drive. Due to the increasing housing developments in the area, the volume of traffic on Foxwell road, a residential street, has become a safety hazard for our families, children, and pedestrians.
Foxwell Road has no sidewalks, and is a vital route for residents, including children walking to nearby schools. Vehicles frequently exceed the posted speed limit of 25 mph, with some traveling at speeds appearing to be over 40 mph, creating unsafe conditions. Without immediate action, we fear accidents or injuries, especially for our kids, seniors, and animals.
The Anne Arundel County Neighborhood Traffic Control Program emphasizes safe streets through measures like speed humps, which have proven effective in reducing speeding. We urge the Traffic Engineering Division to conduct a traffic study on Foxwell Road and implement solutions to slow traffic, ensuring our community is safe for all.
By signing this petition, we call on AACO to:
• Install speed humps or other traffic calming devices on Foxwell Road
• Increase signage and visibility to deter speeding.
• Prioritize pedestrian safety for families and schoolchildren.
Let’s make Foxwell Road a safe place to walk, play, and live. Please act now to protect our community!
Sincerely,
Concerned Residents of Foxwell Road and surrounding Communities
