In Laurel Hill, FL, USA, our neighborhood, Heritage Plantstion has been gradually growing since its inception in 2007. With the development spearheaded by Dr Horton that picked up again in 2020, we find ourselves in 2025 with more than half of the neighborhood complete yet lacking one crucial element: street lighting.

Throughout these years, residents have expressed concerns over the absence of sufficient street lights, which are currently only installed at the very front entrance of the neighborhood. This lack of lighting presents significant safety risks to our community, affecting everyone who calls this neighborhood home: children at play, families out for an evening stroll, vehicles navigating the streets at night, and even local wildlife crossing the roads.

The safety of our children and families is paramount. We have walked these unlit streets feeling the unease that darkness brings. It's a community's responsibility to ensure that all its members can live without fear, especially during night-time hours. The absence of street lighting has become more concerning as the neighborhood continues to develop and more families move in.

A year ago, we secured a quote from Chelco outlining the costs and implementation strategies for installing street lights within our neighborhood. This plan suggested a feasible path towards illuminating our streets, yet no action has been taken. It's time to bring this back to the table and push for measures that ensure the security and well-being of our residents.

We are not asking for the moon, but simply for the same kind of basic infrastructure that many communities take for granted—adequate street lighting. Implementing this change could drastically reduce the potential for accidents and improve overall livability in our area.

We urge the local authorities, developers, and Chelco to collaborate and act swiftly on this matter. Let us prioritize the safety of our neighborhood and create a well-lit environment that all residents can enjoy and feel secure in.
