The Issue

Living in Block L, Soshanguve has become increasingly dangerous. The streets we once considered safe are now shrouded in darkness, giving rise to a spike in criminal activities. The absence of proper street lighting is a glaring issue that facilitates house break-ins, armed robberies, carjackings, and assaults—turning our community into a haven for crime.

We, the residents of Soshanguve, are fearful every day as we navigate our community. The lack of lighting on our streets means that we have no way of knowing who might be lurking in the shadows, and unfortunately, any one of us could be the next target of these growing criminal acts. The situation is dire, and it threatens the safety and harmony of our neighborhoods.

Our plea is a simple yet vital one: for the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality to install proper street lights and repair the malfunctioning Apollo lights in Block L, Soshanguve. Ensuring our streets are well-lit will not only deter potential criminals but also restore a sense of reassurance and safety among the residents.

Statistics indicate that well-lit areas discourage criminal activities and are a cost-effective measure to significantly reduce crime rates. In many cities around the world, adequate street lighting has been proven to lower the incidence of crime and fosters a sense of community well-being.

Although infrastructure projects require time and resources, the importance of safeguarding our community and reclaiming our streets from crime cannot be overstated. By investing in these essential repairs and installations, the City of Tshwane will demonstrate a commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens.

We urge the municipal authorities to take swift action. By prioritizing the installation of street lights and fixing the Apollo lights in Block L, we can start to build a safer environment for everyone who calls this community home.

Please sign this petition to show your support for a safer Soshanguve. Together, we can urge the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality to act and secure a brighter, safer future for our community.
