Many residents, including myself, have become increasingly concerned about the number of vehicles travelling at excessive speeds along Darnel Road, right outside of Newlands walk and play park. 

Sadly, my concerns have become a reality when my beloved cat was recently killed by a speeding van near our home on Darnel Road whilst trying to reach the greenery. This devastating incident has not only brought immense grief to my family but has also heightened my concerns for the safety of my four children and the public. 

The road is used every day by families with young children, dog walkers, cyclists, and other members of the community. People regularly use the car park spaces, and/or cross the road to access the park, making the high speeds of passing vehicles particularly dangerous. I am deeply concerned that if action is not taken soon, a child or pedestrian could be seriously injured. It is crucial that we take immediate action to prevent further tragedies.

Studies from the UK Department for Transport show that speed humps can reduce accidents by up to 50% in residential areas. Making them a vital addition to roads frequented by pedestrians.
