Install Speed Cameras on the M4 for Safety and Wildlife Protection

Install Speed Cameras on the M4 for Safety and Wildlife Protection
The Issue
Growing up in Umhlanga was a different experience. The once serene and wild surroundings are now overshadowed by the deafening roars of cars and motorcycles racing through the M4. The peace that once accompanied a walk through the Umhlanga forest has been replaced by the constant disruption from vehicles exceeding speed limits drastically, some going over 160km/h in 100km zones.
The consequence is not only a disturbance to the tranquil environment but also a devastating impact on local wildlife. It's heart-wrenching to witness innocent creatures like mongoose, duiker, and bushbuck fall victim to these reckless drivers. This cherished environment should not become a hotspot for wildlife fatalities and noise pollution.
Moreover, residents living near the M4 are subjected to unbearable noise levels, which affect their quality of life. The M4 has transformed into a route marred by chaos and danger, making it imperative for us to demand change.
Placing speed cameras on the M4 from La Lucia to Umhlanga and also between the Umdloti turn-off and Umhlanga is a realistic and necessary step. These cameras would act as a deterrent to those breaking speed limits, ensuring safer roads for both wildlife and humans. Enforcing stricter speed regulations through these means would restore the peace in our neighborhoods and help protect our wildlife.
It's time to act for the safety of our community and the preservation of our environment. Join us in calling for the implementation of speed cameras on the M4. Sign this petition to make the M4 safer for everyone.
