The Issue
My daughter (9) has asked if we can start a petition about the speeding vehicles and accidents on Snake Pass and into Glossop. I have to say I agree, and am supporting her to spread the word that change is needed.
Living in Glossop with two young children, we've experienced firsthand the unsettling reality of speeding vehicles on the entrance from Snake Pass. On sunny days, the roar of engines resonates in our home and around the neighborhood, disturbing the peace and posing a constant risk to families like ours. It's disheartening to witness the aftermath of collisions with neighbours' cars often left with broken wing mirrors, a testament to the dangers perpetually faced by our community.
Despite our eldest child's eagerness to embrace independence by walking home from school, the peril posed by speeding vehicles makes such freedom seem an unattainable luxury. The road, a vital artery through our town, remains a treacherous path due to reckless speeding, severely limiting the security and well-being of our loved ones.
This isn't an isolated concern. Snake Pass has become notorious for accidents and, tragically, fatalities, which underscore the urgent need for safety interventions. The current lack of adequate traffic regulation measures elevates anxiety among parents, pedestrians, and all too often, results in avoidable accidents.
By installing speed cameras along the entrance to Glossop from Snake Pass and extending this implementation throughout the pass, we can significantly deter speeding drivers, diminishing both noise pollution and the risk of collisions. Speed cameras have proven effective in improving road safety and can play a crucial role in safeguarding our community.
We need to prioritize the safety of our residents—our children, friends, and neighbours. The installation of speed cameras will enforce speed limits, halt dangerous driving behaviors, and transform our community into a safer environment for everyone.
