Living on Nicollet Island has always felt like an immense privilege—an oasis of greenery, wildlife diversity, and close-knit community in the heart of the city. We are so grateful to be raising our infant daughter on the Island amidst nature and our friendly neighbors. However, I am increasingly concerned about the prevalence of speeding and reckless driving on the island.

Every summer, Nicollet Island becomes an unintended racetrack, attracting drivers who endanger pedestrians—including families like mine, walking with strollers and children, as well as our older neighbors and furry friends. 

The solution is clear and proven effective: installing speed bumps at critical points along Nicollet Island’s roads. Not only would this measure protect Island residents, but it would also preserve the quiet, nature-friendly atmosphere of our island.

Implementing these changes will require coordinated action with our local government bodies. We need to urge the City Council to prioritize pedestrian safety and allocate resources for the installation of speed bumps on Nicollet Island.
