Install Speed Bumps on Marsh Lane, B23 6 for Safety
The Issue
Living on Marsh Lane in Erdington, Birmingham, has been a significant part of my life. As a resident who has two young children - my son, aged three, and my daughter, who is less than a year old - I've witnessed firsthand the dangers posed by reckless driving on our street. I recall a devastating fatality that occurred due to speeding in the past. My deepest concern is for the safety of my children and all the young students attending Featherstone School, which is just steps away from our home.
The current situation is alarming. Speeding vehicles frequently disrupt our peaceful neighborhood day and night, from cars to lorries, endangering pedestrians and the many parked cars lining our road, many cars have been damaged as a result. The absence of any traffic calming measures has emboldened drivers, causing numerous accidents and imposing an ever-present risk of serious injury or worse.
According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA), traffic calming measures such as speed bumps are proven to reduce vehicle speeds, thereby significantly lowering the risk of accidents and fatalities. In residential areas like Marsh Lane, where children are often out playing and families walk to school, implementing these measures is not just a suggestion but a necessity.
Installing speed bumps on Marsh Lane would provide a practical and immediate solution to this ongoing problem. It would create a safer environment for all residents, deter speeders, and protect the most vulnerable members of our community - our children.
Join us in urging the local council to take swift action by signing this petition. Ensuring the safety of our streets is a community responsibility, and together, we can bring about the necessary change to protect our loved ones. Please sign to make Marsh Lane a safer place for everyone.
