The Issue

In our vibrant community, near Caldwell Park, we cherish the ability to enjoy nature's beauty and the great outdoors. The areas around Garden Dr include:

-Scottsboro Jr High

-Walking Trail and Crosswalk

-Caldwell Park

Other areas within 1 mile include:

-Soccer Fields

-Walking Track

-Ball Fields

However, an escalating concern has emerged that threatens the safety and well-being of our community members, especially near a crosswalk and our Jr. High School.

Reports have detailed the recklessness of drivers who speed down Garden Dr, often leading to dangerous situations and accidents. We've witnessed a car crash into a tree and narrowly avoid hitting a pedestrian. The sharp turn at the end of the road has a blind spot where cars are not able to see around the turn, which could end in tragedy. Our Community should never have to fear such avoidable dangers. We have also witnessed a runner crossing the crosswalk who was almost hit by a speeding car.

We are urging the local authorities to take immediate action by installing speed bumps along Garden Dr. This simple measure can significantly reduce the speeding of vehicles, enhance road safety, and protect our loved ones. Speed bumps serve as a highly effective solution in residential and pedestrian-heavy areas, proving successful in countless communities worldwide in curbing car speeds and preventing accidents.

We must protect our neighborhoods and those who reside and play within it. The implementation of speed bumps will not only slow traffic but will also promote a culture of caution and respect for pedestrians. Our children deserve safe passage to their schools, and we all deserve to utilize public spaces without fear.

Let's prevent avoidable tragedies and reaffirm our commitment to each other's safety.
