The Issue

Living and working by E Hacienda Ave for years has made me and many of my neighbors acutely aware of the dangers posed by speeding drivers. Despite efforts to increase safety measures, such as adding crossing guards at crosswalks, the issue persists largely unabated. Unfortunately, these safety measures are limited to school days and are only effective for about two hours a day. This short-term solution does not address the round-the-clock speeding problem, especially in an area with two school zones that require constant vigilance.

E Hacienda Ave is bustling with families, children, and pedestrians who deserve to feel safe. It is disturbing to witness vehicles racing through areas that should be safe havens for our community. The constant speeding showcases a blatant disregard not only for the laws but also for the safety and well-being of our children and neighbors. Lives are at risk, and we need to take a united stand to curtail this dangerous activity.

The installation of speed bumps along E Hacienda Ave offers an effective solution. Speed bumps naturally slow traffic down and remind drivers to be cautious in school zones. According to a study conducted by the Institute of Transportation Engineers, roads with speed bumps see a reduction in average speeds by 8 to 10 mph, significantly lowering the risk of accidents. In neighborhoods like ours, they provide a long-continued passive control that does not rely on policing, ensuring daily safety without added resources or personnel.

We urge the local authorities and city planners to take immediate action by installing speed bumps on E Hacienda Ave. This preventative step would not only protect children and families but also contribute to a stronger and safer community environment. We cannot afford to wait for a tragedy to occur before we enforce better traffic regulations.

Please sign this petition to help make E Hacienda Ave a safer place for everyone. Your support is crucial in advocating for change that will have a lasting, positive impact on our neighborhood.
