Install Speed Bumps on Amestoy Ave for Safer Streets

Install Speed Bumps on Amestoy Ave for Safer Streets
The Issue
As a resident of Northridge, Los Angeles, I am deeply concerned about the safety of our community. Every day, cars drive down Amestoy Ave between Devonshire Blvd and Mayall St at alarming high speeds. The situation has worsened due to nearby construction on Balboa. This reckless driving has resulted in numerous animals being killed and near-miss accidents with residents.
I experience this danger firsthand when I back out of my driveway to take my children to school. Cars turn the corner so fast they come dangerously close to hitting us. When returning home, drivers honk and speed past me as I pull into my driveway - an accident waiting to happen.
Our neighborhood is not here to cater to vehicles. It is not a speedway. It's a place where families live and children play. It's a place where pets wander and neighbors walk their dogs. But with cars speeding down our streets, it feels like an accident is inevitable - that one day a car will crash into a house or worse yet, hit someone.
According to the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO), speed bumps effectively reduce vehicle speeds by 20-40%. We need these life-saving traffic calming measures installed on Amestoy Ave now more than ever.
We urge local authorities in Northridge, Los Angeles to prioritize our safety over convenience by installing speed bumps along Amestoy Ave between Devonshire Blvd and Mayall St immediately.
Please sign this petition. It is one way we can come together in caring for the safety of our community and create positive change - your neighbors, your friends, your family members could be next at risk without immediate action! Let us be proactive and prevent further damage and protect our residential streets.
Results of this petition will be attached to the application for speed humps that is due to city council on March 21. The Los Angeles Department of Transportation is responsible for reviewing the application and determining whether all criteria is met, and that enough residents agree.
I am proud to be the Block Representative for this matter and will work hard for the best interest and desires of residents on Amestoy Ave.
