Our community is grieving the recent loss of a child who drowned in the pond located at the Padma Court pond. This is not an isolated incident; there have been multiple tragedies at this same body of water over the past few years. It is clear that the current lack of protective barriers poses an ongoing, unacceptable risk to every child in our neighborhood.

Our Goal: We, the concerned neighbors and residents of Virginia Beach, are calling for the immediate installation of a permanent, child-resistant safety barrier (such as fencing) around the perimeter of the pond. We are also calling for an official safety audit of the area to ensure it meets the necessary standards for a residential neighborhood.

Why This Matters:

 * Safety First:

Children in our community walk, play, and ride bikes near this pond every single day. The water is easily accessible, and the lack of a barrier creates a constant, preventable hazard.

 * Accountability:

The owners of this property have a responsibility to ensure their land does not pose a danger to the public. We are formally notifying the responsible parties that the community is aware of this hazard and expects it to be corrected before another life is lost.

 * Community Unity: We are a neighborhood that looks out for one another. We are coming together to ensure that our environment is safe for all children.

Our Call to Action: We ask the property owners and the local government to:

 1. Immediately conduct a professional safety audit of the pond and its surrounding access points.
 2. Commit to a timeline for the installation of physical safety barriers.
 3. Prioritize public safety over convenience or aesthetics.

We cannot wait for another tragedy to happen.
