My fellow community members of Clay County, FL, I write with a heavy heart today. Too often, we've experienced a dangerous incident that plagues our county: impatient drivers disregarding school buses loading and unloading our precious children. In Clay County, these instances occur with concerning frequency, pushing unsuspecting children into harm's way and leaving us as parents in fear. It's time we address this growing issue.

Installing red-light runner cameras on the stop swing arms of all Clay County school buses could save our children's lives. This is not a baseless claim, as the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services (NASDPTS) reported that red-light runner cameras had led to a decreased number of drivers illegally passing school buses in the states they were implemented.

Such a change in Clay County will not only serve as a strong deterrent to careless drivers, but also provide valuable evidence in case of an unfortunate incidence. With these cameras, drivers would think twice before breaking the law and endangering our young ones.

It's high time we prioritized the safety of our children over the convenience of impatient drivers. Let's look out for each other and ensure that each child in Clay County, FL comes home safe every day from school.
