Our city’s parks are vital community spaces where families gather, children play, and residents connect with nature. However, many of these parks currently lack adequate recycling facilities. This gap leads to recyclable materials such as plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and paper being discarded in regular trash bins or, worse, littered throughout our green spaces.

 Environmental studies show that single-stream recycling can divert up to 30-40% of waste from landfills. Yet, without accessible recycling bins, visitors often have no choice but to throw recyclables away. Our city produces thousands of pounds of plastic and paper waste annually, much of it generated in public spaces like parks. This not only contributes to overflowing landfills but also threatens local wildlife and pollutes waterways.

We request the City Parks and Recreation Department to commit to installing recycling bins in all city parks within the next year, accompanied by educational signage to inform the public about recycling benefits and procedures. This actionable change can significantly reduce waste, lower city cleanup costs, and promote environmental awareness across our community
